We are happy to welcome Dr. Cluny South to the MFRE team as a Sessional Instructor. Dr. South will be teaching Survey Design and Data Analysis, one of our two new data and business analytics courses. Read on to learn more about Dr. South and this exciting and innovative course.

Dr. Cluny South – Survey Design and Data Analysis

After two decades of working full time in the film industry in the UK, Dr. Cluny South decided to move to Canada with her young children to continue her studies. She undertook an interdisciplinary PhD with a focus on prosocial consumer psychology and marketing. Over the last decade, Dr. South has been kept busy working as a researcher for organizations such as the Ministry of Forestry, Lands and Natural Resources Operations, BC SPCA, Environment Canada, as well as carrying out marketing research for companies such as Lux Research and PlaceSpeak. She has been teaching consumer psychology, marketing, and marketing research & survey design for five years at UBC and SFU.

The new MFRE course, Survey Design and Data Analysis, explores the methods and techniques used in applied market research, focusing on survey research and data analysis with a concentration on the food, agribusiness and resource sector. Content includes the market research process; focus group design and delivery; best practices of conducting surveys and developing questions; ethics of research; sample selection and design; data analysis using Excel/SPSS and research communication.
