Isaac – HanWen
Qi

I graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Animal Biology and have spent the past few years as a researcher with the Animal Welfare Program, focusing on dairy cattle welfare. Through this work, I’ve seen how data and compassion can work together to create meaningful change in agriculture.

I joined MFRE to bridge a critical gap I’ve noticed in my field: while the science behind farm animal welfare is strong, we often lack the economic expertise to turn that science into effective change. I believe that a better understanding of the non-rational ways people make decisions could open new doors for advancing farm animal welfare. Outside of academia, I’ve led initiatives across student leadership, athletics, and community service, all grounded in the goal of making systems more just and compassionate.
