Academic Courses and Career-Ready Skills
The University of British Columbia’s Master of Food and Resource Economics (MFRE) combines applied economics, business, policy and data analytics in a one-year professional master’s degree focused on real-world challenges in the climate, food, environmental and resource sectors.
Students build a foundation in finance, markets and policy before specializing in one of four concentrations: Economic Modelling, Policy Analysis, Strategic Business Management, or Data Analytics. Coursework emphasizes practical analysis and decision-making using tools such as Python, R, SQL, Excel and Power BI.
Year-long professional development and data analytics workshops complement the academic courses, strengthening students’ technical, analytical, communication and leadership skills for careers in industry, government and consulting.

Work Experience and Career Paths
MFRE students gain valuable professional work experience through four-month Graduating Projects with industry, government, and nonprofit partners.
