Highlights:

• Outdoor Adventures

  MFRE students explore Vancouver’s beauty and attractions through group hikes, visits to iconic spots like Grouse Mountain and the Vancouver Aquarium, and fun activities like bowling nights. These adventures foster camaraderie, team spirit, and a stronger connection to the UBC community and the city.

• Summer Bootcamp

  The Summer Bootcamp refreshes students’ skills in data analytics, economics, and statistics while offering opportunities to explore the UBC campus and Vancouver. These activities enhance learning, foster camaraderie, and build a strong cohort community.

• Scavenger Hunt & Icebreaker Activities

  During the Summer Bootcamp, students join scavenger hunts and icebreaker activities that promote teamwork and collaboration. These events explore UBC’s campus and Vancouver landmarks, helping students bond, discover their surroundings, and build lasting friendships while fostering a strong sense of community.

• Graduating Project Presentation (August)

  In August, students present their group projects to faculty, industry partners, and the UBC community, showcasing their application of MFRE skills to real-world challenges. This event celebrates their achievements, provides industry exposure, and offers valuable feedback, marking a key milestone in their MFRE journey.

At MFRE, alumni actively support students by sharing insights, tips, and career experiences, inspiring them to succeed academically and explore diverse opportunities in food, resource economics, and sustainability.

  Every week, students connect with industry leaders from Sustainability, Climate, Food and Environment sectors gaining insights into current trends and real-world applications of their learning. These sessions bridge classroom knowledge with practical industry experience, empowering the students to see their future impact.

The Industry Insight Series is a cornerstone of the MFRE experience, providing students with direct exposure to the real-world challenges and opportunities in Food, Climate, and Environmental sectors. These sessions connect students with industry leaders, innovators, and thought leaders who are shaping these critical sectors. At The MFRE program brings together a vibrant and diverse cohort of students from across the globe, including countries such as Mexico, China, Chile, Ecuador, Australia, South Korea, Nigeria, Germany, Japan, and the USA. In addition, the MFRE students come from a wide range of academic disciplines, including economics, business, agriculture, engineering, forestry, and environmental science, as well as varied professional experiences and universities. This diversity fosters a rich learning environment where students exchange unique perspectives, collaborate across cultures, and build a global network.
