Success Stories: Testimonials from our 2025 Summer MFRE Alumni Survey

MFRE was a valuable experience, not just getting the knowledge, skill and network, but spending a year with a group of supportive professionals and classmates has been a wonderful experience in my student life.

My MFRE experience was instrumental in shaping my career path in areas such as team collaboration and professionalism.

Personally, the MFRE community was one of the most valuable aspects of the program. I formed strong friendships with classmates from around the world, which not only expanded my worldview but also created a lasting support network. Living and studying in Vancouver allowed me to grow outside my comfort zone, embrace new cultures, and build the confidence to thrive in diverse environments.

Professionally, MFRE gave me the tools and confidence to pivot my career into a more analytical and impactful direction. I deepened my understanding of economics and data analytics and learned how to apply them to real-world challenges in food, agriculture, and the environment. Courses and hands-on projects helped me sharpen my critical thinking, while the exposure to policy and market analysis shaped the way I now approach complex decision-making.

Lifelong friendship, Massive uptick in self confidence and believe in academic abilities.

As an international student, living in a new country while taking on an intensive graduate program pushed me out of my comfort zone—but it also helped me grow immensely. I built lifelong friendships, found a supportive community, and discovered my passion for solving complex, real-world problems through a systems-thinking approach.

Looking back, the MFRE program has had a profound impact on both my personal and professional journey.

Academically, it equipped me with a multidisciplinary lens to assess business challenges—especially in the agri-food sectors—by integrating economic theory, data analysis, and strategic decision-making. This foundation has been instrumental in my pivot from science into business and strategy roles. Equally important, MFRE gave me the confidence to navigate challenges.
